Winter Whispers Over the Baltic Sea. Unexpected Sight Near the Beach. Snowmen Appear in August

Unseasonal snowmen have appeared along the Baltic coast in August due to a rare mix of polar maritime air and low-pressure systems, catching residents off guard.

Snowmen Over the Sea in August

The meteorological situation over the Baltic Sea was linked to colder polar maritime air reaching Poland and a low-pressure system covering much of the country. Meteorologists from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued first-level warnings for strong winds and thunderstorms in the Pomeranian and West Pomeranian provinces. On Saturday afternoon, footage and photos emerged showing heavy rain and hail showers, with some residents managing to build small snowmen in places like Niechorz, Pobierowo, and the Rewal commune.

Weather on Sunday

According to forecasts, Sunday will bring mostly clear skies in southern Poland, with moderate cloud cover elsewhere. Brief showers may occur in the north. Maximum temperatures will range from 18°C to 21°C, slightly cooler in the Podhale region at around 17°C. Winds will generally be moderate, occasionally gusty, with stronger sea breezes along the coast.

Warming Expected Soon

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management stated that warming is anticipated starting next week. “- After a cold and dynamic weekend, weather conditions are gradually stabilizing. From Monday, more sunny periods will dominate, and high-pressure systems will bring warmer air masses to Poland. Temperatures will rise significantly by the second half of the week, with some areas reaching 20-25°C,” said IMGW press spokesperson Agnieszka Prasek.
