Daring Attempt at Shoplifting in Border-Area Discount Store: Czechs Tried to Leave with Full Carts

Three Czech women attempted to steal approximately 3,700 zł worth of goods from a Biedronka store near the Polish-Czech border but were caught by security and detained by police.

Incident in Mieroszów

A daring shoplifting attempt occurred at a Biedronka store in Mieroszów, Poland, located about 4 kilometers from the Polish-Czech border. Three Czech women from Broumova filled shopping carts with food, cosmetics, school supplies, and industrial products but refused to pay. They tried to leave the store with the items, valued at around 3,700 zł, before security intervened and called the police.

Police officers from Mieroszów and Boguszów-Górce detained the women, who were taken to the Wałbrzych District Court. The court imposed suspended sentences on the three suspects: the two older women received four months’ probation, while the youngest was sentenced to four months’ suspended imprisonment for two years. All three must also compensate for damages caused by the theft.

Theft Penalties in Poland

According to the Polish Penal Code, theft of merchandise valued under 800 zł is considered a minor offense, punishable by fines, restricted freedom, or arrest. Theft exceeding 800 zł is a felony, with penalties ranging from three months to five years of imprisonment. In cases involving forced entry, imprisonment can extend from one to ten years.
