A drone explosion in Osiny, Lublin Province, has exposed critical weaknesses in Poland’s air defense system, according to former Prime Minister Leszek Miller, who warned that 100 simultaneous drones could devastate major Polish cities.
Drone Explosion in Osiny
Miller: Poland’s Air Defense Doesn’t Exist
Leszek Miller, while on air with Polsat News, claimed the incident in Osiny revealed the nonexistence of Poland’s air defense system. He stated that an unidentified flying object had traversed the country for 2.5 hours without being detected, intercepted, or shot down, covering a distance of 200 km. Miller asserted that “Poland has no effective anti-aircraft machinery to detect, intercept or neutralize such drones. What will citizens think when such incidents occur?”
Russian Hybrid War Tactics, Miller Says
Miler further noted that if the event was a deliberate test of Poland’s air defenses by Russians, they now know what actions would be necessary during a potential war. “A hundred such drones launched simultaneously could bring all major Polish cities to ruin,” he added. His remarks were met by Bronisław Komorowski, who countered, ‘Mr. Prime Minister, have mercy—neither a drone nor even a thousandth of its capacity could destroy a city.’
Incident Details and Diplomatic Response
On Wednesday night (August 20), fragments of a military drone fell on a cornfield in Osiny, Łuków County, Lublin Province, following an explosion that damaged nearby buildings. According to the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, no violations of Polish airspace were registered from Ukraine or Belarus during the incident. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs later issued a protest note to Russia’s embassy, labeling the event a clear provocation and part of a hybrid warfare strategy.
