Car Fire and Apartment Block Evacuation

A car fire broke out on the parking lot of Powstańców Street 27 in Ząbkak on Sunday evening. Six fire units, along with police and emergency services, participated in the operation. All residents of the building were evacuated safely.

Major Fire in Apartment Block in Ząbkak

A major fire occurred in an apartment block in Ząbkak several hundred meters from the Kopernika neighborhood, where a massive blaze engulfed three connected wings of the building on July 3. The upper floors and attic of the building with over 200 apartments were completely destroyed. The fire spread to the basement, which housed an underground parking lot, through technical shafts. Approximately 500 people lived in the building, and over 300 firefighters and 77 vehicles were involved in extinguishing the blaze. The fire started on one of the attics, and residents were quickly evacuated. A few individuals sustained minor injuries. Firefighters faced significant challenges due to adverse weather conditions and the building’s architectural layout.

Need for Attic Inspection

The Polish Chamber of Civil Engineers urged property managers in multi-family buildings to conduct inspections of attics, both usable and unused, to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations. Experts emphasized that particular attention should be paid to areas that may have been illegally converted or contain flammable materials. It was also noted that attics often serve as storage spaces for various items, which can act as fuel during fires. “Unfortunately, the issue lies in enforcement, as tenants frequently ignore recommendations, and orderly attics are soon cluttered with unnecessary items,” the chamber stated.
