The Pentagon’s quiet decision to block Ukraine from using long-range ATACMS missile systems, which could target Russian territory, has raised concerns amid stalled peace talks and mounting frustration over the war.
Ukrainian Restrictions on Long-Range Missile Use
“Wall Street Journal” reports that the “approval process at the highest level” prevents Ukraine from employing ATACMS missile systems, which have the range to strike Russian territory. The final decision rests with Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth, as the White House seeks to pressure Moscow into initiating peace negotiations.
Trump’s Growing Frustration Over the War
Media outlets highlight that this news emerges during Donald Trump’s intense frustration over the conflict. The former president recently stated, “It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking the aggressor’s territory.” He compared the situation to a sports team with a strong defense but no offense, saying, “There’s no chance of victory! The same applies to Ukraine and Russia.”
New Missiles for Ukraine, but Approval Still Required
Meanwhile, reports indicate the United States approved the sale of 3,350 ERAM maneuverable missiles to Ukraine this week, with delivery expected within six weeks. However, “Wall Street Journal” notes that even the use of these missiles, with a range of 240 to 450 km, will require Pentagon authorization.
Biden’s Controversial Role in the Conflict
Trump accused Joe Biden of being “unfair and glaringly incompetent,” claiming the current administration has only allowed Ukraine to defend itself rather than wage an offensive. He questioned, “How did it all end up this way?”
