Chorzów: 52-Year-Old Ukrainian Killed by Knife Attack, Court Orders Detention

A 47-year-old drunk man attacked a 52-year-old Ukrainian citizen in Chorzów on Friday, leaving the victim dead from injuries. The suspect was subdued by a witness but remains in custody amid a potential life sentence.

Knife Attack in Chorzów

A knife attack occurred on Friday around 2 p.m. on Siemianowicka Street in Chorzów. A 47-year-old man, who was intoxicated, stabbed the 52-year-old Ukrainian citizen. A bystander subdued the attacker by disarming him and restraining him to prevent further movement. “I wasn’t thinking anything else—my only goals were to take the knife from him and then flip him over and twist his arm so he couldn’t move,” the man told the “Western Journal.” The 52-year-old victim could not be saved and died from his injuries.

Arsenal for the 47-Year-Old

The 47-year-old suspect had nearly two promille of alcohol in his system. Prosecutors questioned him and charged him with murder, which he denied. Investigators requested his temporary arrest, and the court approved the request, detaining him for three months. The man faces a potential life sentence. During the interrogation, he was unable to explain the motive for attacking the 52-year-old.

“Harassed Passersby”

“It was terrifying to be near him. He was a sick man. Everyone knew a tragedy was inevitable. He had already been in prison, but they released him again,” said a local in an interview with “Fact.” The Chorzów State Prosecutors’ Office reported the man had previous convictions for property-related offenses, drug possession, and driving under the influence.
