Ex-President Kurski accused Duda of “primitive ageism” for questioning Kaczyński’s leadership, arguing that age should not dictate political decisions.
Kurski Accuses Duda After Online Interview
Andrzej Duda, in an online interview with Żurnalist, expressed serious doubts about the need for a new leader in Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS), stating that “a more modern perspective is needed.” Kurski criticized this stance, calling it “primitive ageism” and accusing Duda of shifting the boundaries of political capability. He rhetorically asked why Duda lacked the courage to attack Donald Trump, who is 79 years old, and highlighted examples of active politicians over 70. Kurski argued that undermining Kaczyński, the architect of Poland’s right-wing successes, including the latest presidential victory, is the shortest path to his downfall, stating, “I don’t know what saddens me more: the lack of respect for the man who twice won the presidency or the childish glorification of baseless ageism.”
Duda Expresses “Serious Doubts” About PiS Leader
Duda acknowledged his own “perspective still tainted by the PRL (People’s Republic of Poland)” but emphasized that younger generations view the world differently, free from past complexes. He asserted that “changes are necessary” and noted a “gradual generational shift” is occurring in Polish politics, citing Konfederacja as an example led by “very young people.”
Kaczyński Re-elected as PiS President
Jarosław Kaczyński was re-elected as PiS president on June 28 during the party’s VII Congress in Przysucha, Mazovia. As the sole candidate, he expressed confidence in his ability to lead, stating, “I have my age, but I believe I can manage. I can only manage with the state. We must manage, because Poland must change.” Kaczyński has led the party uninterruptedly since 2003, serving as prime minister from 2006 to 2007 and holding two vice-premiership roles in Mateusz Morawiecki’s government.
