Scandalous Behavior of Tourists in the Karkonosze Mountains. “Hands Are Falling”

The Karkonosze National Park condemned tourists’ reckless actions, including nudity, smoking, and alcohol consumption near cliffs outside trails, sparking debate on whether rescue operations should be chargeable.

The National Park’s Outrage

On Monday, August 25, the Karkonosze National Park posted on its social media accounts condemning the irresponsible behavior of tourists in Poland’s mountains. “Naked torsos, cigarettes, and alcohol above cliffs outside trails—stupidity and audacity that leave us questioning whether some rescue operations in the mountains shouldn’t be chargeable,” the post reads on Facebook. A user commented, “Paid rescues won’t change anything, just like a ban won’t eliminate cigarettes, alcohol, or… ‘naked torsos.’” The official responded, “That’s clear. Paid operations would harm only those who delay calling for help out of fear of costs, until it’s too late. But hands fall.”

Online Outcry

Public reaction on the internet was swift and critical. One user stated, “Of course, some rescue operations should be paid. For example, if someone goes hiking in inappropriate shoes, under the influence of alcohol, or other toxic substances, and has an accident—they should pay.” Another added, “Every rescue or search mission involves risking the health and lives of those carrying it out. Accidents are tragic, but those caused by stupidity, rowdiness, alcohol, or breaking the law should involve financial responsibility for the involved parties.”
