A new traffic arrangement will be implemented from August 25 at Bank Square, closing a lane next to the Duzgunce tram track toward the W-Z tunnel. Direct traffic will be limited to one lane, marking another phase in the area’s transformation set to conclude by autumn.
Changes at Bank Square: Lane Closure Next to the Duzgunce Tram Track
Renewal of Traffic Patterns
From 7:00 AM on Monday, August 25, traffic authorities will close a lane on the Solidarity Avenue section near the tram track heading toward the W-Z tunnel at Bank Square. Barriers will be installed at intersections with Bank Square and Anders Street, as well as at the shared bus-tram stop. Direct travel will be restricted to a single lane until September.
Eastern Side Modifications
Alterations will occur on the eastern side of Bank Square, adjacent to the Blue Tower. Local officials stated the goal is to maintain construction site boundaries and safety along the tram track and the Solidarity Avenue segment leading to the W-Z tunnel.
Broader Metamorphosis of the Area
Works at Bank Square are part of a larger urban renewal project. Earlier this year, bike lanes were installed, pedestrian paths were reconstructed, and new trees were planted in the northwest quadrant, followed by greenery developments on the eastern side. The current phase is expected to conclude by autumn 2025.
Additional Greening and Infrastructure Upgrades
Further greening plans include adding more trees, shrubs, and flowers in the southeast corner of the Solidarity Avenue intersection and along the tram track. Concrete paver pathways on sidewalks will be replaced with granite slabs, the flower bed under the office building will be expanded, and hydrangea bouquets, decorative grasses, and perennials will be planted at the square’s No. 4 spot. The city also announced the planting of approximately 30 new trees on the square in 2025.
Previous Work Phases
Earlier stages of the project, carried out from late May to June, included replacing tram switches and temporarily adjusting bus and tram routes. Current updates focus primarily on road works and lane reductions along Solidarity Avenue.
