Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister suggests a Russian drone that crashed on its territory may have originated from Ukraine, amid ongoing analysis of recovered wreckage.
New Information on the Russian Drone Incident
On TVRepublika, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski addressed the incident involving a Russian drone that fell on Polish territory. He revealed that a detailed analysis of the wreckage is underway, noting that the drone “likely entered from Ukrainian airspace,” though no official confirmation has been released. “Ukrainians are the best-prepared among all nations to combat drones, as they face such threats daily,” Bartoszewski remarked, adding that the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs assessed it as a Russian drone that had flown over Ukrainian territory.
Russian Drone Explosion in Lubelszczyzna
On the night of August 19–20, a military drone crashed and exploded in the village of Osiny in Lubelszczyzna. The Operational Command of the Armed Forces stated that preliminary radar analyses showed no infringement of Polish airspace or activity from Ukraine or Belarus. Meanwhile, National Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed the drone’s Russian origin. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a protest note to the Russian Embassy, with Government Spokesman Adam Szłapka telling TVN24: “This is not the first test by NATO or EU nations. Moldova has been tested this way multiple times. It is their method of instilling fear—we must not be afraid. Our task is to ensure our systems function as effectively as possible.” He added that such tests are typically conducted to evaluate how a country responds to potential threats.
