A Chill Prevails at the Cabinet Council Meeting. Tusk to Nawrocki: It’s Not a Debating Club

A tense atmosphere marks the Cabinet Council session as Tusk clarifies its purpose, emphasizing that it is not a platform for political debate but a body tasked with addressing critical national issues.

The Cabinet Council Meeting in Focus

On Wednesday, the Cabinet Council convened, with Karol Nawrocki stating that he hopes the council will serve as a forum for exchanging ideas and streamlining cooperation mechanisms over the next five years. Donald Tusk responded, underlining that the council is not a substitute for the government or parliament but a tool for resolving matters of exceptional importance, as outlined in the Constitution.

Tusk Clarifies Narratives About Inflation

Tusk addressed criticisms, stating, “We have moved away from the eerie, PiS-era inflation that drained Polish wallets for years.” He highlighted Poland’s current 3.1% inflation and 3.4% economic growth, the highest in Europe, while noting the government’s focus on debt and deficit management to expand ambitious programs without exceeding risk limits.

Infrastructure Investments and the CPK Project

Tusk emphasized the government’s commitment to infrastructure, citing a 100% increase in investments under the Ministry of Infrastructure, including nearly 100 billion złoty allocated for rail, airports, and other projects in the coming year—double the 50 billion złoty budget of the previous government. He added, “We act, not just talk.”

Nawrocki Challenges Tusk on Deficit Claims

Karol Nawrocki countered Tusk’s remarks, stating, “According to my knowledge, we have a record-high deficit.” He praised the government’s shift away from questioning the CPK rail project but warned that the budget outline proposed by the government does not fully align with the project’s original vision from its initiators and signatories of the citizen initiative.
