Open Days of Local Activity Spaces in Warsaw: Free Exploration of Neighborhood Initiatives from September 5–14

Warsaw’s Open Days of Local Activity Spaces (MAL) from September 5–14 invite citizens to engage in free community-driven events highlighting local initiatives, workshops, and informal gatherings.

What Are Open Days of Local Activity Spaces?

From September 5 to 14, Warsaw will host Open Days of Local Activity Spaces (MAL), the fourth edition of the city’s annual celebration of community-based projects. Events are organized across all MAL locations, with free participation for attendees.

Objectives of the Event

The Open Days showcase daily life at MALs, which are publicly accessible spaces where residents can meet, discuss, join activities, or organize their own initiatives. Local institutions (e.g., cultural centers, libraries) and NGOs lead these spaces, offering services to participants at no cost. This September’s cycle features workshops, creative activities, behind-the-scenes presentations, and neighborhood discussions to demonstrate how individuals can engage with local communities.

Event Organizers

The event is organized by the Social Communication Center of the Warsaw City Government. Stacja Praga, a partner under the “Stacja Integracja” project funded by the city, supports the MAL network through promotion and knowledge exchange. This duo has successfully coordinated previous editions of the event.

Activities and Planning Details

The program includes family- and intergenerational workshops, neighborhood meetings, local activity reviews, and open sessions with facilitators who can help refine ideas or guide use of nearby MAL spaces. Each location independently curates its schedule, so checking local services and neighborhood websites for real-time updates is recommended.

Finding the Schedule

The “Warszawa Sąsiedzka” portal provides centralized information and event previews for Open Days. Individual districts also publish detailed schedules on their official platforms, including Praga-Południe (news about Open Days), Ursus (event announcements for the “Portiernia” MAL at the Cultural Center), and the Social Assistance Center on Targówka (support team activities and Open Days info). Additionally, tracking Stacja Praga’s announcements for collective records and participant notices is advised.
