A soldier from the “Podlasie” Task Group was injured during an operation to disrupt an illegal border crossing near Czeremcha, Podlaskie, on August 25, 2025, after a grenade detonated in his hand. His condition is stable.

Incident Details

A soldier from the “Podlasie” Task Group was injured near Czeremcha (Podlaskie Voivodeship) on August 25, 2025, around 8:00 PM, while attempting to prevent a group of aggressive migrants from illegally crossing the border. The soldier’s injuries are stable after hospitalization.

Military Police Investigation

The Operational Command of the Armed Forces reported that the soldier sustained a left-hand injury during the use of non-lethal force. Immediate pre-medical aid was provided, followed by prompt transport to a hospital in Białystok for specialized care.

Grenade Mechanics and Safety Measures

The injury reportedly stemmed from an exploding noise grenade held by the soldier. Designed to disorient aggressors with sound and flash, the grenade causes temporary sensory delays, giving security forces time to intervene. However, its delayed detonation mechanism can sometimes lead to accidents, especially if thrown too late, bounced off terrain obstacles, or if the device malfunctions.

Common Injuries from Grenade Detonations

During such explosions, the hand gripping the grenade often suffers severe injuries, including amputations, burns of second and third degree, or deep tissue damage. Protective gear is worn, but human error or device failure can still occur.
