Stole Car and Fled from Police: 22-Year-Old Faces Charges and Police Supervision

A 22-year-old accused of stealing a Toyota and evading police pursuit was placed under police supervision after being charged in Warsaw.

Stolen Car Chase Engages All Patrol Units

A radio dispatch issued during the night of Saturday to Sunday mobilized all patrol officers on duty. The commander of the patrol unit from the Warsaw VI Police District Command responded to the report of a stolen Toyota in the southern part of Praga, initiating a pursuit. The suspect, a 22-year-old resident of Ząbek, was previously known to authorities for multiple offenses.

Officer Spots Stolen Toyota and Initiates Pursuit

Aspirant Piotr Kryza noticed the marked Toyota at Ronda Starzyńskiego and activated emergency signals to stop the driver. However, the suspect accelerated and fled through the streets of Praga Północ, intentionally weaving against traffic and disregarding road rules. When Kryza blocked the car with his police vehicle, the driver jumped out and ran away on foot.

Suspect Identified and Has Prior Criminal History

Additional officers arrived promptly and assisted in transferring the suspect to the police car. The driver was identified as a 22-year-old man from Ząbek. Breathalyzer tests confirmed he was sober. He has a history of legal issues, including theft, fraud, and drug-related offenses.

Investigation into Car Theft and Police Vehicle Damage

Inspectors from the Warsaw Traffic Department examined the damaged police car and the recovered Toyota. Officers from the northern Praga district command also conducted investigative procedures at the scene.

Car Stolen from Business Premises After Midnight

Further investigations revealed the Toyota was stolen just after midnight from the premises of a company. The owner filed a theft report, prompting the police intervention.

Suspect Charged with Car Theft and Evading Police

The case concluded on Monday at the Warsaw-Praga Północ Prosecutor’s Office, where the 22-year-old was interrogated. He faces charges of car theft, failure to comply with police control, and causing damage to a police vehicle. The prosecutor imposed police supervision and a ban on leaving the country. The suspect could face up to five years in prison.
