An 11-year-old girl in the U.S. gave birth at home without medical supervision, sparking legal and social outrage. Her parents initially denied knowledge of her pregnancy, but DNA tests later confirmed the father of the newborn.
The Child’s Unplanned Pregnancy
The birth occurred on August 16 in a home environment without medical assistance. Cherie W., the 33-year-old mother, and Dustin W., the 34-year-old father, initially claimed they were unaware of the pregnancy. The girl did not attend school, reducing the likelihood of her condition being noticed by others. She had also visited a doctor over a year ago.
Uncle Identified as the Father
According to NBC News, DNA testing revealed that Dustin W. is the biological father of the newborn in 99.9% of cases. As a result, he faces charges of sexual abuse of a minor, while Cherie W. may be held responsible for allowing her child to be exploited.
Life Imprisonment Threatens the Couple
Media reports indicate the couple also cared for five other children aged 2 to 9, who allegedly lived in deplorable conditions without clothing and among pet waste. The children were removed from the couple’s care. Both Cherie W. and Dustin W. could face life imprisonment, with a bail set at $100,000 each.
