Polish MPs from the PiS party have filed a complaint with the prosecution against Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek, alleging he violated legal procedures by dismissing court presidents and vice-presidents without due process.
PiS MPs File Report Against Justice Minister
On Wednesday (August 27), Marcin Warchoł and Zbigniew Ziobro accused Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek of potentially committing a crime by dismissing court presidents and vice-presidents. The MPs claimed Żurek bypassed the proper legal process, stating that the procedure requires the involvement of the court collegium. Warchoł criticized Żurek for acting “in violation of the law” and argued that judges cannot be punished for adhering to existing laws. He emphasized that these appointments were made under statutory authority and condemned the Minister’s actions as “disgraceful.”

Ziobro also condemned the ruling government, calling it an “organized criminal group” operating within the executive branch. He reiterated his colleague’s argument that no one should be punished for following the law. Ziobro highlighted the lack of judicial independence and criticized the government’s repeated legal violations, asserting that the current system is compromised by politically motivated decisions.
Removal of Court Presidents Among First Decisions by Waldemar Żurek
Waldemar Żurek assumed the role of Minister of Justice following the July government restructuring. By late July, he announced his initial decisions, including the removal of 46 court presidents and vice-presidents nationwide. At the time, he stated his stance on judicial independence, referring to judges who signed support letters for the neo-KRS as needing reflection. He argued that these judges were aware the neo-KRS was unconstitutional and insisted on appointing collaborators who would support upcoming reforms without obstruction.
