Fire Accident While Lighting a Campfire: 25-Year-Old Woman Dies in Hospital

A tragic fire incident in Ćwiklinku, Płońsk County, left two people seriously injured when a flammable substance ignited during the attempt to light a fire. The 25-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries three weeks after the incident.

Date and Initial Report of the Incident

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 7, in the early afternoon. Around 12:00 PM, the Provincial Fire Service Headquarters in Płońsk received a report of a sudden fire caused by a flammable substance used to ignite flames during the attempt to start a campfire.

Emergency Response and Injuries

Firefighters from the State Fire Service, volunteers from the local fire department, the Mobile Rescuers’ Team, and two helicopters from the Air Rescue Service responded to the scene. The injured individuals, a 34-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, suffered severe burns.

Investigation Underway Following the Fatality

Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, the 25-year-old woman died on Sunday, August 24, due to extensive injuries. Prosecutors immediately launched an investigation, and the police have interviewed witnesses. Forensic results from the autopsy, scheduled for next week, will be critical to the case. No one has been charged so far.

Police Collaborate with Fire Experts to Determine Circumstances

The police, in cooperation with a fire safety expert, are examining the incident’s circumstances to establish the cause and any potential negligence.
