Reaction to the President’s Legislative Proposals
Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, the Minister of Family, Work, and Social Policy, reacted to President Andrzej Duda’s new bills during an interview on TVN24’s “Facts After Facts” program. She noted that the Cabinet Council meeting proceeded smoothly, allowing the government to inform the president about the country’s situation. Emphasizing the council’s role in enabling the government to communicate with the head of state, she remarked, “When I heard about these new bills, my first thought was: oh, someone here is countering the Cabinet Council. If the president had made a deliberate decision in the spirit of the declared dialogue, he might have explained his doubts or shared his stance. It would be odd for someone representing rural interests to hinder others who work in rural areas with additional administrative burdens.”
Behind the Scenes of the Cabinet Council Meeting
Host Anita Werner asked Dziemianowicz-Bąk about the private discussions during the council. The public session, she noted, was tense, with the prime minister and president exchanging sharp remarks. She confirmed that the government was well-prepared, citing the public finance issue as an example. When questioned about claims that the prime minister “equalized” the president and his advisors, she clarified that the goal was to correct any misconceptions about the newly elected president’s understanding of the situation.
Donald Tusk Comments on the Cabinet Council Meeting
Following the council, Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated, “Regardless of political differences with President Duda and his allies, we seek common ground, especially on security, international policy, and Poland’s strategic interests.” He reiterated his belief in collaborative spaces for Poland’s benefit, acknowledging tensions with domestic and political opponents but stressing the need to continue finding shared objectives with the president. Tusk described the meeting as a successful example of this effort.
