Nord Stream Explosion. German Media: All Suspects Are Ukrainians

German media outlets have identified seven Ukrainian nationals, including a possible deceased individual, as suspects in the Nord Stream pipeline explosions. The investigation suggests they traveled through Poland with real passports but falsified names.

Investigation into the Nord Stream Pipeline Explosions

German media, including ARD, “Süddeutsche Zeitung,” and “Die Zeit,” report that German authorities have identified all seven individuals suspected of involvement in the Nord Stream attack. All are Ukrainian citizens, with one possibly deceased. According to Tagesschau.de, the suspects traveled through Poland using genuine Ukrainian passports but with fake surnames. The group reportedly rented the yacht “Andromeda” from a German company in Rostock to sail into the Baltic Sea, where part of the crew allegedly planted explosives on gas pipelines connecting Russia to Germany.

Arrest of Serhij K.

Last week, 49-year-old Serhij K., allegedly one of the coordinators of the Baltic Sea operation, was arrested in Italy. German prosecutors charge him with complicity in the explosions, sabotage, and destruction of infrastructure. After his extradition to Germany, K. will face the Federal Court of Justice. Ukrainian authorities deny involvement, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stating in a 2023 interview with “Die Welt,” “Bild,” and “Politico,” “I am the president and give the right orders. Ukraine did nothing like that. I would never have done so.”

Ties with Ukrainian Security Services

According to the investigation, part of the “Andromeda” crew had clear connections to Ukrainian special services or the military. However, it has not been proven whether the attack was a state operation. Investigators suggest it could have been a paid private group acting independently. Ukrainian authorities have consistently denied any involvement.

Polish Investigation

“Rzeczpospolita” reported earlier this week that Poland’s investigation into the explosions is ongoing, with the Gdansk branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office awaiting legal assistance from Bulgaria to verify the identities of the “Andromeda” crew members. Participants in the voyage were denied entry by the Border Guard when they docked at the port in Kołobrzeg.
