Police in Gdańsk arrested a Danish citizen after a high‑speed chase turned into a vehicle rollover. The suspect, believed to have stolen a BMW, fled the scene but was apprehended before he could escape.
Police chase spirals into rollover
On Tuesday, August 26, a BMW was speeding down one of Gdańsk’s streets without stopping for a routine police checkpoint. The driver attempted to flee, triggering a pursuit in which the pursuing police vehicle lost control and rolled over at approximately 7:05 p.m. The incident left one officer seriously injured, and another was hospitalized. The escaped driver, a white BMW sedan with Danish plates, fled the scene.
Arrest of the suspect
Police officials confirmed that the driver, a 30‑year‑old Danish national, was arrested after the chase. He is suspected of vehicle theft. Authorities recovered the stolen BMW, which had failed to stop for a police stop on that Tuesday.
Police statement
Commissioned officer Mariusz Chrzanowski from the Gdańsk City Police Headquarters said the rollover occurred when the police vehicle attempted to change lanes, colliding with the vehicle ahead. The officer lost control of his car, leading to the rollover.
Outcome
All police personnel were rescued and received medical attention. The arrested suspect remains in custody while investigators continue to examine the incident.
