Spokesperson Says F‑16 Crash Probe Will Take Months

Polish military spokesman said the investigation into an F‑16 crash near Radom will take several months after the aircraft hit the runway on 28 August during AirShow rehearsals.

Investigation to Take Months

Lieutenant Colonel Marek Pawlak said on TOK FM that the investigation into the incident will “certainly take months”.

Commission for Accident Investigation in Radom

The Commission for Accident Investigation of State Aviation, operating in Radom, is responsible for the inquiry, according to Pawlak.

No Sabotage Confirmation

Pawlak declined to comment on sabotage suspicions, stating he had no information on the matter.

Training Flights Suspended

All F‑16 training and exercise flights have been suspended, according to an unofficial source and a report by Interia.

Radom Airport Closure

Warsaw‑Radom Airport remains closed until Saturday, 30 August, until 2 am. Detailed information on flight diversions is available directly from operators.

Crash Details

On 28 August, an F‑16 crashed during exercises before the AirShow at Radom airport, striking the runway and killing 35‑year‑old Major Maciej “Slab” Krakowian, leaving a wife and two children. It is the first F‑16 crash in Poland.

On 29 August, Prosecutor Antoni Skiba said a formal investigation has been opened. Fourteen military prosecutors were deployed for the examination of the base.

Air Show Cancellation

Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz announced the cancellation of the international air show scheduled for this year due to the tragedy.
