Ukrainian-Polish journalist Witalij Mazurenko defends his comments comparing the President’s Chief of Staff, Karol Nawrocki, to a “pachan,” stating it was about behavior during a governmental meeting.
Dismissing the Controversy
Mazurenko maintains his position, saying “If I listen to myself carefully, I was talking about a man’s behavior, Mr. Karol Nawrocki. It was about his manner of conduct, which was also evident at the Cabinet Council meeting.”
Unapologetic Approach to Free Speech
“As a journalist, the value of free speech is absolute, and any attack on the freedom of speech is unacceptable,” he said. “I don’t feel any remorse for what I said. I’m an adult man, and the wave of trolling on the internet is a pretty small thing for someone who knows what dignity is.”
Distancing from Free Speech Battle
While he claims to understand the impact of his words, Mazurenko points out that his apology post on Facebook “had a second bottom.” The post read: “With deep sorrow, I received the fact that my yesterday’s speech in the ‘Debata Godziny’ program offended many of you.”
Reaction to Backlash
The Ukrainian-Polish journalist’s controversial remarks have led to immense backlash on social media, causing him to lose his position in the “Obserwator Międzynarodowy” editorial team.
