Poland Could Benefit From Electric Vehicles, But Coal Hangs Over Its Head

A UK NGO report reveals Poland’s strong position in the European battery industry, but the country’s heavy coal dependence remains a significant challenge.

Battery Industry Growth

Poland has seen over 100,000 electric vehicles registered, with 92,000 hybrids, as the country benefits from the automotive battery industry. The report from New AutoMotive highlights Poland’s leadership in lithium-ion battery production.

Economic Impact of Battery Industry

The report indicates that the return of medial waste produced during battery production plays an important role in Poland’s economy. According to the study, the entire battery production chain, including copper mining, component production, and recycling, has resulted in €7.4 billion in investments and over 28,000 jobs in Poland.

Challenges Ahead

The future development of the battery industry depends on Poland’s ability to reduce its carbon emissions, as most European imports pay attention to the country’s carbon footprint in energy production, which is still predominantly coal-based.
