Authorities warn of heavy rains and thunderstorms across southern Poland with possible flooding.
Serious Weather Warnings Issued for Southern Poland
The Polish government’s security center issued a severe weather alert on August 30th warning of intense rain showers and thunderstorms. The statement read: “Warning! Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected today and tomorrow (30/31.08). Flooding may occur. Do not approach swollen rivers. Listen to the instructions of the authorities.” The warnings were sent to residents in parts of Silesia, including Bielsko-Biala, Cieszyn County, and Zawiercie.
Saturday’s Weather Forecast
The state meteorological institute predicts that on Saturday, the country will see moderate cloud cover, with localized increases in cloud cover leading to occasional rainfall and possibly thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from 25 to 29 degrees Celsius in the center and south-east, while other regions will see temperatures from 19 to 24 degrees. Winds will be stronger and gustier, making the perceived temperature cooler.
Cooling Down in the South
In contrast, the southern portion of Poland will experience a cooling effect on Sunday. Cloud cover will remain moderate, with sporadic rainfall across many regions. Western and northern parts of the country will experience maximum temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees, while the rest of the area, especially the south-east, may see temperatures rise to 26 degrees. Strong winds will continue.
