Tusk Activates Nationwide Alarm: Emergency Status Extended in Poland

President of the European Council Donald Tusk extended emergency measures nationwide, with alarm level BRAVO scheduled to run through November 30th.

Extension of Emergency Status

The extension of alarm level BRAVO affects the whole of Poland and will remain in place until the end of November. The measures apply to Poland’s energy infrastructure both within and outside the country’s borders.

Reasoning Behind Measures

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that the BRAVO alert was introduced due to the consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and hybrid attack activities carried out by Russia and Belarus against Poland and other EU countries. The introduction of the BRAVO-CRP level represents a reaction to a cybersecurity threat.

Clarification of BRAVO Status

The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that BRAVO is the second level of a four-tier scale that might be activated “in the case of an increased and foreseeable threat of an event of a terrorist nature, when the specific target of the attack has not yet been identified.”
