Polish politician Zbigniew Ziobro has announced plans to file a criminal complaint against former prime minister Donald Tusk and Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek over the dismissal of prosecutor general Dariusz Barski.
Ziobro’s ultimatum to Żurek
Ziobro had previously issued an ultimatum to Żurek, demanding the reinstatement of prosecutor general Dariusz Barski. In response, Żurek dismissed the ultimatum, stating that Ziobro “can set it for their dog”.
Ziobro announces formal complaint
During his press conference on August 30th, Ziobro announced plans to file the criminal complaint against both the current prosecutor general and justice minister, as well as former prime minister Donald Tusk on Monday.
Contractual dispute over Barski’s position
Ziobro claims that Żurek has decided to continue the state of lawlessness by refusing to reinstate Dariusz Barski as the prosecutor general. According to Ziobro, the legislation states that the prosecutor general can only be removed from position if the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice unanimously agree and the President gives written permission. Barski was removed from his position in early 2024.
