Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new offensive operation targeting deep into Russian territory, as his country re-evaluates the war’s strategic direction.
Zeplensky outlines offensive plans
Speaking on Sunday, 31st August, Zelensky informed the nation of Ukraine’s intentions, stating that his forces have thoroughly analyzed situations in the areas surrounding Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Kharkov. “We will continue our active actions in exactly the way that is necessary for the defense of Ukraine. The forces and resources are prepared,” he wrote on X.
Ukrainian forces prepare for deep strikes
Zelensky also detailed the information provided by his head of the Ukrainian armed forces, General Oleksandr Syrsky. He emphasized that Russian forces are primarily focusing their actions towards Pokrovsk, where they are suffering some of the heaviest losses.
Strategic objectives in Donbas region
The Ukrainian President highlighted that during this year, more than 290,000 Russian troops have been killed or suffered serious injuries on the entire frontline, with most cases occurring in the Donbas region where Russia hasn’t achieved any strategic objectives.
