Czech Opposition Leader Andrej Babiš Hospitalized After Campaign Attack

Former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš was struck in the head with a ball during a campaign event in Dobrá, requiring hospitalization.

Attacker Identified

The incident occurred on September 1 when a local resident reportedly threw a ball at Babiš during a gathering in the Frydek-Mistek region. Babiš was hospitalized for examinations, while a woman also injured in the event received medical assistance. The attacker was arrested by police.

Campaign of Hate

Karel Havlíček, the vice-chairman of Babiš’s ANO party, stated that the attack was the result of a “campaign of hate” led by the Spolu, Pirates, and STAN coalitions. He warned that similar incidents could occur in the future.

Reactions from the Coalition

Minister of Interior Vít Rakusan from the STAN party condemned the attack on Babiš, stating that violence in any form is unacceptable and cannot solve any problems. He further called for conflicts to be resolved diplomatically, not through force.
