Media: Karol Nawrocki Meets with Donald Tusk Amid Presidential Palace Concerns

Polish ambassador to the US Karol Nawrocki met with former Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to discuss his upcoming visit to the US, which has raised concerns at the Presidential Palace.

First Meeting Between Nawrocki and Tusk

TVN24 reports that Polish ambassador to the US, Karol Nawrocki, met with Donald Tusk on Monday, discussing the planned Wednesday visit to the US. The meeting took place alongside Tusk and Nawrocki’s attendance at the commemorations of the 86th anniversary of World War II’s outbreak in Gdansk.

Presidential Palace Concerns About the US Visit

TVN24 reporter Agata Adamek spoke with officials connected to the government, noting that “no breakthrough” is expected from Nawrocki’s US visit. “Indeed, the Presidential Palace is concerned that too little might happen during the trip,” said Adamek. Colleagues of Nawrocki are worried that President Trump might utilize the meeting to announce plans to reduce the presence of US troops in Poland, which they believe could damage the purpose and outcome of the visit.

Tusk’s Comments on “Discreet Contact”

On August 27, the Council of Ministers held a meeting, following which the Prime Minister stated that he is scheduled for a “systematic, discreet, and behind closed doors” contact with Nawrocki. “We will coordinate foreign policy with the best intentions,” emphasized Tusk. “We have agreed with President Nawrocki that we will find time for ourselves and meet before the president’s departure to the United States to discuss any potential details.”
