Direct Quote from Organizers
Organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla stated, “We conducted a sea trial and then returned to port to wait out the storm. This means a delay to our journey to avoid risk for larger vessels.”
Thunberg and Cunningham on Board
Activists including Greta Thunberg and Liam Cunningham are part of the flotilla aiming to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and break the Israeli maritime blockade, which has been in place since 2007. Israeli authorities describe such initiatives as “propaganda actions” supporting Hamas.
Polish Participation
Polish participants include politician Franciszek Sterczewski, journalist Patrycja Wieczorkiewicz, and Omar Faris, founder of the Association of Polish Palestinians.
