Polish President Karol Nawrocki demands financial reparations from Germany for World War II damages, while Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski states the claim is hopeless but shows support for the initiative.
Polish President’s Demand
Polish President Karol Nawrocki urged the government to pursue financial reparations from Germany for the damages inflicted during World War II. He argued that reparations are necessary to build a partnership with their Western neighbor based on truth and good relations.
Foreign Minister’s Reply
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski responded to President Nawrocki’s demand, stating “The situation is hopeless, but we will support the initiative.” He also mentioned confusion about why the nationalist side does not demand reparations from Russia, which seized a part of the compensation awarded to Poland.
