Six German AfD politicians have died ahead of regional elections, prompting conspiracy theories and raising questions about the right-wing party’s controversial candidates.

Six AFD Politicians Found Dead

The six AfD (Alternative for Germany) politicians were running in local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, a region with 18 million residents and 20,000 candidates. The party’s vice chairman, Kay Gottschalk, told Die Welt that while the deaths were being investigated, there were no indications that the party members’ deaths were due to murder or a similar act.

The AfD has garnered 5.4% of the vote in North Rhine-Westphalia during the last local elections. In the February 2023 parliamentary elections, the party received 16.8% of the votes in the same region.
