Polish Authorities Arrest Ukrainian Driver in Deadly Highway Tire Change Accident

Polish police arrested a 31-year-old Ukrainian man in connection with an accident on Highway S17 that killed a father and son when their car was hit by a Scania truck during a tire change.

Arrest of Suspect

A 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen, Anatolii U., was taken to the prosecutor’s office on Monday (September 1st), where he was charged with causing a fatal accident while changing a tire. The potential penalty could reach eight years in prison. A temporary arrest warrant was also issued.

Investigation Findings

According to the prosecutor’s office, Anatolii U. unintentionally violated traffic safety regulations while changing a tire on the right side of the highway. Investigators determined that while changing the tire, he failed to maintain proper caution and distance, resulting in the collision with two men at a stopped vehicle with flashing lights on the emergency lane. At the time of the incident, the driver was sober.

Victims Identified

The accident occurred between Sunday and Monday night (August 30-31) on Highway S17 towards Warsaw near the village of Sieprawice in the Lublin province. Initial investigations indicate that a father (49 years old) and son (28 years old) were hit by a Scania truck after they were changing a tire on their car.
