Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski discussed the possibility of Poland’s inclusion in the G20 group during a meeting with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio.
Meeting between Sikorski and Rubio
On September 2, during their meeting, the two politicians discussed cooperation in security and energy matters, as well as the issue of a lasting just resolution of the war in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Honoring Polish-U.S. Relations
Sikorski expressed his belief that Polish President Karol Nawrocki would support Poland in these matters. He equated the success of Poland’s efforts to an increased U.S. military presence in Poland and considered any reduction in presence as a failure.
Award Presentations
During their meeting, Sikorski also provided information regarding recent talks with the U.S. and reflected on Poland’s entry into the club of billion-dollar economies. He made a case for Poland’s inclusion in the G20 group during the forthcoming U.S. presidency.
Cultural Exchange
Sikorski presented an artifact titled “In the Afternoon” from 1989 signed by former Polish president Lech Wałęsa to Rubio. This artifact symbolized the struggle against the communist system and the protection of democracy, both values for which the Lech Wałęsa Prize is awarded.
