Polish prosecutor confirms Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia’s interrogation will occur on October 10 regarding “soft coup” allegations.
Szymon Hołownia to face questioning in “soft coup” investigation
Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia will be interrogated on 10 October in connection with the so-called “soft coup” investigation, according to a Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson. Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba stated that Hołownia will testify as a witness, as the investigation is focused on gathering information regarding alleged attempts to influence the election of President Andrzej Duda.
Wojciech Przybylski’s complaint leads to investigation
The investigation, initially spearheaded by Deputy Prosecutor General Michał Ostrowski and later taken over by the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office, was prompted by a complaint filed in February by then-Presidential Election Judge Wojciech Przybylski. Przybylski alleged that government officials and legislators were acting as part of a criminal organization.
Hołownia’s controversial remarks
In July, Hołownia acknowledged that he was occasionally approached with suggestions about staging a “soft coup.” The remarks sparked controversy as Hołownia denied the accusations and clarified that his comments were directed at the process of a presidential replacement, not the initiation of a coup d’état.
