An 18-year-old was beaten so severely in a Warsaw attack that he suffered a brain concussion and lost consciousness during the assault last weekend on Nowy Świat.
Teen severely beaten on Warsaw’s Nowy Świat
A reader of Miejski Reporter alerted authorities to an attack that occurred between Saturday and Sunday, August 29-30, 2020, on Nowy Świat in Warsaw. The 18-year-old victim was with his friends when he was targeted and brutally assaulted. In the attack, the victim suffered a brain concussion, bruising to the skull, a broken eyebrow, and internal injuries to his mouth. His brother also suffered a fractured jaw.
Policja investigating incident
The incident was reported to Warsaw Police District I, who are now working on the case. The family of the victim is asking for any witnesses to the attack to come forward. “We are seeking witnesses of this assault and any surveillance footage. His brother is a normal, law-abiding citizen who has never had trouble with the law before,” said the Miejski Reporter reader.
Penalties for assault in Poland
Pursuant to Article 217 of the Polish Criminal Code, anyone who assaults another person or harasses their bodily integrity may face a fine, limited liberty, or imprisonment for up to a year. Those involved in a fight or an assault that endangers a person’s life may expect a sentence of three months to five years. If the assault results in severe harm to the victim, the punishment may be one to ten years in prison, and if death occurs, the perpetrator may face a sentence of two to fifteen years.
