European Council President Donald Tusk met with Trump administration officials in Washington to discuss Ukraine and Russia, while expressing doubts about NATO unity.
Trump-Tusk Meeting Agenda
The meeting included discussions on the alliance’s strategy for engaging Vladimir Putin in peace talks. Despite joint efforts by European and American leaders, including bilateral talks in Alaska and Washington, Tusk emphasized that there have been no positive results from these meetings.
“No one should have any illusion about Vladimir Putin’s intentions. We all know that there is no goodwill, and pressure must be maintained,” Tusk said, adding that while Trump is patient when it comes to dealing with Russia, Europe is prepared to impose further sanctions if necessary.
Poland’s Commitment to Ukraine
Premier Tusk announced that Poland will not be sending troops to Ukraine, even after the end of the war. However, he emphasized that Poland remains responsible for logistics and will continue to support Ukraine. “We are acutely aware that Poland has the largest hub for organizing aid to Ukraine, making this sufficient and exceptional,” he said.
Tusk’s Comments on Previous Diplomatic Disputes
In response to the recent comments by presidential ministers suggesting that Donald Tusk does not have access to the White House, Tusk said, “We all know how many PiS pilgrimages have left for Washington to explain to our American friends who I am and what kind of monster I am. Somehow, they have achieved an effect, but I won’t get involved in this game. Poland works very well with the United States.”
Tusk expressed his support for Trump’s efforts, stating, “I keep my fingers crossed for President Nowacki,” but also acknowledged that there is no willingness for cooperation from the other side. “I will continue to patiently advocate for solidarity and cooperation in international affairs,” he said.
