Polish Opposition to Ukraine’s NATO Membership Revealed in Survey

A recent IBRiS survey found that 52.7% of Poles are against Poland supporting Ukraine’s entrance into NATO, with only 33.5% in favor.

Majority Against Ukrainian NATO Membership

The majority of respondents, representing over 50% of Poles, had reservations about supporting Ukraine’s NATO membership according to the survey conducted by IBRiS and published in Rzeczpospolita on September 4. Only 33.5% of respondents expressed support for Ukraine’s admission into the alliance.

Partisan Divide

Among supporters of parties currently in Poland’s government coalition, 59% favored supporting Kyiv’s efforts to join NATO, while 29% were against. Those who voted for PiS, Confederation, or the Together party had a separate opinion, with 74% not supporting Ukraine’s efforts to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Socio-Demographic Factors Affecting Viewpoints

Men, those over 50 years of age, rural residents, and individuals with basic or vocational education were the largest groups opposing support for Ukraine’s integration with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, constituting 64%, 61%, 62%, and 71% respectively.
