The Polish military holds a private memorial for Major Maciej “Slaba” Krakowian, who died in a plane crash near Radom during combat exercises on August 28th.
Pilot’s Service and Tragedy
The fatal crash occurred on August 28th around 7:25 PM at the 42nd Flying Training Base in Radom. A 25-year-old Major Maciej “Slaba” Krakowian, piloting an F-16 during practice before an air show, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
Investigation Underway
The Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday that 48 witnesses have been questioned and substantial evidence recovered, including flight documentation and security systems related to the crash. They also have access to the pilot’s personal camera and voice recordings from Radom and Poznan. Independent investigation is conducted by the State Aviation Administration’s Accident Investigation Commission.
Legacy and Hurting Community
Family and fellow soldiers gathered in private memorial service in Krakow, mourning the loss of a dedicated, passionate military man. The General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces issued a statement in remembrance of the pilot, who served at the 31st Tactical Air Base in Poznan for 17 years.
Promoted Posthumously
In recognition of Krakowian’s long and distinguished service, he was promoted posthumously to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
