The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is advising citizens against travel to Belarus due to high risks of arbitrary detentions.
Unrest and Severe Security Concerns
The Polish embassy in Minsk reminded citizens via X that “due to the high risk of arbitrary detentions” it advises against travel to the country. The ministry highlighted that such situations could become increasingly difficult or impossible to handle, especially in the event of further deteriorating security or closed borders.
Potential Detentions and Unfriendly Conditions
Poles visiting Belarus may face situations that could be detrimental to their interests. “This isn’t a democratic or friendly country to Poland,” said Paweł Wroński in a media discussion, emphasizing the need to take the warnings seriously.
Polarization and Escalating Tensions
Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ) also reiterated that travel to the country should be avoided “due to rising tension, military events in the region, and repeated arrests of Polish citizens.” It was additionally advised that Poles in Belarus should register with the Odyseus system without exception.
Recent Incidents and Diplomatic Support
Following the arrest of a 27-year-old Krakow resident on accusations of espionage for Poland regarding “secret” documents linked to military maneuvers “Zapad-2025,” the MSZ called for all travel to Belarus to be avoided. The detainee is a member of the Krakow Carmelites, and MSZ head Radosław Sikorski vowed that the matter would not be left unaddressed. The ministry assured diplomatic and legal support to the detained Polish citizen.
