The shelter staff had never witnessed such cruelty. The initial wound on the cat’s head was believed to be a boil, but upon further examination, workers found the animal had 34 staples embedded in its skull. They were left for some time, and the only option was to shorten the cat’s suffering.

According to the Animal Protection Act, premeditated cruelty against animals can result in a prison sentence of up to three years, with a maximum of five years in extreme cases. The court may also impose fines ranging from 1,000 to 100,000 PLN for animal welfare purposes, confiscate the animal, ban future animal possession, and prohibit the practice of any related profession.
