Thunderstorms rage over Poland

The Polish Meteorological Institute warns of severe thunderstorms, with the chance of local flash floods and strong winds.

Thunderstorms Expected on Sunday

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued warnings for second-level thunderstorms for Sunday (September 7). A frontal zone with a shallow low-pressure system is expected to affect eastern and northeastern Poland, with risks of squall lines and thunderstorms throughout the day. These storms may occasionally produce heavy rainfall and localized accumulations (over 20 mm).

Gusty winds and hail remain low-risk

Despite the storms, the risk of strong winds and hail remains low, with isolated potential for gusts up to 70 km/h and hail. Thunderstorm activity is expected to gradually diminish in the coming hours.

Bursts of Activity Expected Overnight

The IMGW predicts a possible resurgence of thunderstorm activity overnight between Sunday and Monday (September 7-8), though conditions are expected to be less intense than the previous night. The highest chances of thunderstorm development are anticipated in a narrow strip of southeastern to northwestern Poland.
