Accident Details
A five-year-old boy from Ukraine was hit by a bus while crossing the road on a bicycle on 6 September in Chrzanów, Poland (Małopolskie region). Despite being run over and dragged away by firefighters, the child was rushed to Kraków’s Pediatric University Hospital where doctors managed to save his life.
Investigation Updates
Prokuratura Regionalna w Chrzanów is leading the investigation. The boy’s mother was not present at the time of the accident, according to Kraków’s District Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Oliwia Bożek-Michalec. “It seems the child was with his older siblings at the time,” she said. The key testimony in the case will come from an expert in accident reconstruction.
Additional Information
“We don’t know why the two older boys ran over the young boy,” said Bożek-Michalec. The bus driver and the child’s mother have not yet been interviewed due to their emotional state. The regional prosecutor’s office in Chrzanów has already interviewed witnesses and secured monitoring footage. A post-mortem examination on the child is scheduled for Monday.
