A Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopter crashed in Upper Błaziny near Iłża on 3 August 2025 after grazing a 20,000-volt power line, seriously injuring its pilot and 80-year-old passenger.
Initial Accident Details
According to the preliminary report by the State Commission for Investigation of Aviation Accidents (PKBWL), the aircraft, registered as SP-HSB, had been rented by a pilot with a PPL(H) license from Helisolution, a company based at Radom Piastów Airport.
Flight Path and Incident
The planned private flight route was from Radom Piastów to Rzechów, Iłża, Rzeczniówek, Rzeczniów, stopping at private estates before proceeding to Błaziny Górne. The 53-year-old pilot and 80-year-old passenger boarded around 18:10 for the final leg of the journey.
Investigation Findings
During the approach to a makeshift landing site near Iłża, the pilot inadvertently flew beneath a high-voltage power line before colliding with a lower-voltage line at an altitude of 7-9 meters, traveling at 55-60 knots. The investigation reveals that the wires draped along the fuselage and detached the undercarriage, causing loss of control. The aircraft crashed, flipped, and sustained damage to the main rotor, with the tail section breaking off.
Medical Situation
According to the pilot’s statement, the power system was operational until the crash. Both passengers were airlifted to hospitals: the passenger to Skarżysko-Kamieńska and the pilot to Radom. The preliminary report classifies both individuals’ injuries as serious, with no evidence of prior engine or transmission defects.
