Poland to Receive Record €15 Billion for Weaponry and Ammunition

The European Commission plans to approve defense projects for 19 countries, with Poland securing a special arrangement for early funding of existing military investments.

EU Defense Financing

The European Commission will soon be able to disburse preliminary 15% payments for the realization of defense projects from the EU’s €150 billion emergency fund, known as SAFE.

Polish Advantage

Poland successfully negotiated a one-year exception to the rule requiring projects to involve at least two countries, allowing the financing of military investments in a single country. The funds will be particularly advantageous to Polish defense firms, as they come with a 10-year grace period and a repayment extension to 2070.

Program SAFE Requirements

Under the SAFE program, strict requirements will ensure that most resources are allocated to weapon production within the European Union to strengthen the EU’s defense industry. The European Commission will guarantee loans from the EU budget for eligible European countries, allocating funding for both military equipment and ammunition on the basis of member countries’ defense plans.
