Twister in Silesia: South Poland Weather Anomalies

Mobile phone video captured a rare tornado over Silesia and parts of southern Poland on Monday, while emergency services responded to over 30 weather-related incidents, including flooded basements and roads.

Near Marklowice, locals filmed a Tornado whose dramatic-but-dangerous effects were shared on the X platform by Polish Stormchasers. Residents reported heavy rain and hail throughout the day.

Emergency Responses

The Rybnik District of the Fire Service reported 30 interventions related to the weather event, primarily addressing flooded cellars, properties, and roads.

National Emergency Warnings

The IMGW issued second-degree weather warnings for southern Poland, warning of severe storms and sudden weather changes. The warnings remain in effect until 11 PM on Monday.

Military Emergency Preparedness

Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that Territorial Defense forces in southern Poland, including Malopolska, are on standby. TDF forces are expected to be available within 24 hours in most affected areas, with response efforts expected within the next 6-12 hours in southern regions.
