Deadly Metro Accident in Warsaw; Part of Metro Stations Shut Down

A metro accident in Warsaw has resulted in the death of a woman, with six stations on the M1 line closed down due to technical issues.

Technical Issues Cause Shutdown

The Warsaw Public Transport announced that due to technical reasons, trains on the M1 line between Stokłosy and Politechnika are not running. The metro is currently operating between Kabaty and Stokłosy, and between Politechnika and Młociny. Six stations, Ursynów, Służew, Wilanowska, Wierzbno, Racławicka, and Pole Mokotowskie, have been closed.

Caustion on Wierzbno Station Led to Death

At around 8:30 PM, an accident involving a passenger occurred on the Wierzbno station, resulting in the death of a woman. Rescue services are on the scene, according to Maciej Czerski from the Warsaw Metro press office, who spoke with TVN24.

Services Redirected to Buses

The Warsaw Public Transport issued a statement regarding replacement services, stating that they are working on redirecting communication to buses on certain routes:

Statement from MSWiA Regarding Fire

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed a fire in the Warsaw metro on July 1, stating that the power supply was cut off, and transformers were grounded in the wake of a fire in the technical channels of the M1 line Racławicka station. The fire damaged equipment related to power supply and train control. The incident also affected fiber optics dedicated to the M2 line, as communicated by the Metro’s spokesperson.
