Poland Downs Russian Drones in “Unprecedented” Incident

Polish military downed numerous Russian drones that violated Poland’s airspace overnight, marking the first such incident involving Russian UAVs over Polish territory.

Polish Military Responds

The Polish military was placed on the highest level of readiness after Russian drones repeatedly violated Polish airspace. For the first time, the Polish military opened fire, neutralizing a part of them. As a consequence, an extraordinary session of the government was convened, and eastern regions of the country were placed under alarm by services and civilian alerts.

Night Attack on Ukraine Resonates in Poland

Russia conducted a massive rocket and drone attack on targets in Ukraine. Poland also felt the consequences – the Operational Command of the Armed Forces (DORSZ) reported that our airspace was “repeatedly violated by drone-type objects.” This is the first time such a significant incursion of Russian drones has occurred over Polish territory. Radar detected over ten objects moving over Poland, which were potentially threatening.

Polish Military Remains on Alert

The minister of defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated: “Drones used weapons against hostile objects. We are in constant contact with the NATO command. The Territorial Defense Forces were activated to conduct ground searches for downed drones.”
