Baltic states express gratitude to US for defense assistance, urge continued funding

Parliamentarians from the Baltic states have sent a letter expressing their appreciation for continuous support from the US, urging continued funding for the Baltic Security Initiative.

Appreciation for US defense assistance

The members of the parliaments of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia expressed their deepest gratitude for the ongoing assistance from the United States to the Baltic countries, describing it has transformed into a strong political, economic, and military partnership.

Funding request for Baltic Security Initiative

The Baltic states, in return, have made substantial defense purchases in the US, and have committed to spending over 5% of their GDP on security in the coming year.

Financial consequences of non-replenishment

The non-replenishment of the Baltic Security Initiative funds by the US administration of Donald Trump will result in reduced scale, intensity, and frequency of military exercises carried out in these countries with US forces participation.
