The Netherlands summoned the Russian ambassador after drone incidents near Poland’s border, following actions by Dutch F-35 jets that shot down drones causing the greatest security threat.
Incident Details
On Tuesday evening, September 8, drone attacks on Poland led the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Russian ambassador. Similarly, on Thursday, September 10, the Dutch decided to respond to the incident with their pilot’s participation in defending the Polish population against Russian drones.
NATO Concerns
“The reason doesn’t matter to us,” said Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel. The ambassador was called in at 12:30 PM, but the exact reason remains unknown. Following the incident, several European countries including Baltic states, Spain, and Poland itself, where the drones fell, have called in Russian ambassadors.
Possible Consequences
Minister Van Weel did not rule out further sanctions, stating that the action was unacceptable. Regarding Donald Trump’s minimal reaction, he said, “It’s a matter for the President, who has other things on his mind.”
